Letter of a Popular, Straight “A” Student

Tears flood from my eyes,
drizzle down my expressionless face
into a pool of pain and emptiness.
On a scrap of yellowing paper, in black ink,
I am writing my last thoughts of hopelessness.
No one understands my feelings
and no one ever will.
They don’t see or feel the hollowness
that seems to engulf all the life
out of my eternal soul.
This unhappiness… this depression,
that seems to hang over my head like a veil,
will soon be lifted, for I will sign this last letter of life
with the blood of my being.

Full Title: "Letter of a Popular, Straight "A" Student"

I wrote this poem in '91 while I was in high school. I submitted this poem in the past on dA as artwork before. I decided to add it into the poetry section as well.

mmmm... the story of many i presume... but alas...
so much pain can only be described in certain ways so as not to touch whoever is hearing about it.. and alas.. this touches deeply..

i dont think people truly understand how stressful it is being a straight a student... everyone mocks them for being smart or is jealous that they dont need to work at it.. but few realise how hard it really is...

these words are so true :)

I'm glad you liked it! At the time I wrote this, I had a teacher think I was crying out for help. :) I have always felt that writing in first-person helps the readers to "feel" the emotions more. Kind a like talking to a friend. Thanks for taking the time to read it!
